Suryacitta – Academy Partner
Suryacitta has dedicated most of his life to helping people across the world bring more peace, harmony and success into their lives by understanding how to take control of their minds, thoughts and emotions.
Surya began practising mindfulness meditation in 1989, and was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in 1999. Subsequently, he spent five years living in a meditation retreat centre, leaving in 2005 to write his book ‘finding contentment through mindfulness’ which was published by Ivy Press in 2011.
Alongside his own experience, Suryacitta trained in mindfulness based stress reduction and completed the mindfulness in schools Project at Bangor University.
He runs retreats and courses in the UK and Europe and Australasia and he recently published his second book, Mindfulness and Compassion – Embracing life with loving kindness in October 2015. Suryacitta appears regularly on BBC Radio Leicester presenting the ‘thought for the day’, whilst being interviewed about his experiences within mindful learning, teaching and stress reduction techniques.
See what Suryacitta has to say:
Imagine a large block of ice. Inside the block is a big beautiful ruby red jewel, shining and shimmering. This jewel represents the jewel of a joyful life, a life of more ease and contentment. However, it is hidden in plain view inside the block of ice. We know it is there but cannot access it, without melting the ice. How do we melt ice? By leaving it in the sun and allowing the warmth of the sun to gradually reveal the jewel to us.
The jewel represents our vision – that we, our life can be different. This sense of a better life arises of its own accord, it doesn’t take any effort on our part. But this jewel is inside this block of ice. This is where transformation comes in. This course shows us how to melt the ice that keeps the jewel of joy out of our reach. Mindfulness is like the sun. It melts the ice of our rigid held views, our busy minds and our difficult emotions that inhibit us living the life we deserve.
